The Mixed Commission on the Road Traffic Agreement between Switzerland and the EU decided to adjust the distance related heavy vehicle fee (HVF, in German: Leistungsabhängige Schwerverkehrsabgabe - LSVA) as of 1 July 2021. The existing tariffs remain unchanged.
However, older vehicles of categories Euro IV and Euro V/EEV were downgraded from the middle to the most expensive HVF class. The adjustments also apply to foreign traffic through Switzerland.
The measures aim at strengthening the policy of shifting transalpine traffic to rail and at creating incentives to modernise the truck fleet.
The Heavy Vehicles Fee (HVF) is a Swiss federal duty based on total weight, emissions class and covered distance in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. It applies to all motor vehicles and their trailers that exceed a maximum Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) of 3.5 tonnes, are used for shipping goods and are registered nationally and abroad and drive on the Swiss public road network.
