Battery logistics and e-mobility symposium

Challenges and opportunities of the mobility transition ++ Transformation of the logistics industry ++ Europe's challenge in electromobility ++ Efficient and safe battery logistics ++ Circular economy and future waste ++ Actively shaping the future of battery logistics ++

Vienna, February 13, 2025: The Lagermax Group and LogBATT GmbH hosted a symposium on “Battery logistics and electromobility” on February 13. Experts from business and science discussed the current challenges and opportunities of the mobility transition at the Hilton Vienna Waterfront hotel.

The focus of the event was on topics such as decarbonization, battery logistics and the future of the automotive industry in Europe. A large number of customers and media representatives attended the expert presentations by “Autopapst” Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Dudenhöffer, Alexander Friesz, Michael Knobloch and Michael Ausserdorfer and obtained information on all aspects of battery logistics and electromobility.

Transformation of the logistics industry

Alexander Friesz, CEO of the Lagermax Group, highlighted the need for a sustainable rethink in the logistics industry in order to achieve the climate targets set by the EU. He called for a transformation that is open to all technologies and emphasized the urgency of promptly remedying infrastructural deficits on the part of politicians. The transformation must be made economically viable in order to enable companies to develop in a future-proof manner.

Europe's challenge in e-mobility

Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Dudenhöffer provided fascinating insights into the global automotive industry and the development of e-mobility. He pointed out that Europe has a lot of catching up to do compared to China, particularly in the area of battery production. For example, 2.9 million new energy vehicles (NEV) were sold in Europe in 2024, compared to 10.7 million in China. Dudenhöffer emphasized that a cooperation with Chinese companies is necessary to optimize production processes and reduce costs. The start of production of the VW battery cell production in Salzgitter in 2025 is a positive signal, he said, which represents a promising test for Europe.

Efficient and reliable battery logistics

Michael Knobloch, Head of Sales/Marketing at LogBATT GmbH, gave a presentation on the increasing challenges of battery logistics in the wake of the growth of electromobility. He shed light on the entire supply chain, from safe storage to legally compliant disposal, and presented innovative solutions from LogBATT's 360° battery logistics. Reverse logistics is a key component in ensuring sustainable and legally compliant battery disposal.

Circular economy and future waste

Michael Ausserdorfer, General Manager Waste Management at FRIKUS Transportlogistik GmbH, focused on the circular economy and the topic of “Future Waste”. Over 74 million tons of waste are produced in Austria every year, of which only 35 percent is recycled. He presented innovative technologies such as chemical recycling, AI-supported sorting and blockchain technologies that make material flows more transparent and efficient. The automotive industry is taking on a pioneering role here by already establishing recycling concepts for vehicle parts.

Summary: Actively shaping the future of battery logistics

The symposium clearly showed that e-mobility and battery logistics face major challenges, but also opportunities. Close cooperation between politics, business and science is necessary in order to make the transformation sustainable and economically successful. Through innovative technologies, efficient processes and international cooperation, European companies can play a leading role in the global electromobility strategy.
